About The Bervie

John and Elizabeth Barrett’s magical beachside house was once a coast guard station, and since 1932 has been the ultimate escape for the many guests who have stayed here. It’s a low, tucked-in kind of place with a little wicket gate giving direct access to the beach. There is an other-worldliness about the Bervie that is very rare these days.

Elizabeth was born here, and aside from the location and the charm of the place itself, which has style without being at all “decorated”, it is the sense of continuity that makes it special. Of course, Elizabeth has the “hoteliers gene” that makes hospitality come naturally.

Families are very welcome, and there is a cot available without charge. Pets are welcome in some areas. The garden, which is tended by John, is perfect for relaxing with a pot of coffee or afternoon tea. Explore our little website to find out more.
