This is what Georgina Campbell’s Ireland Guide had to say about the award for the Bervie:

Everyone loves the idea of a hideaway, and this is one of our most popular awards. Whether it’s the establishments itself which offers that sense of privacy and seclusion, or its location, there is something very appealing about a place that you can disappear to and escape everyday pressures.

A secret love of ours for many years, Bervie is a magical beachside property that was once a coastguard station. It has a family history in hospitality going back to 1932, so it’s no wonder that the current owners John and Elizabeth Barrett manage to combine relaxed hospitality and professionalism with such apparent ease – Elizabeth was born here, and she has hospitality in her blood.

Tucked down into sand dunes and with a little wicket gate leading to a vast south-facing beach backed by majestic cliffs, Bervie is a wonderful place.

Although modestly categorised as a B&B, its sweet unpretentious comfort, cosy fireside chairs and really excellent dining (thanks to treasured chef James and his team), have the feeling of a much-loved country house.

We can’t recommend Bervie highly enough, but be warned: once smitten, this place and these people will keep on calling you back.
